Dealers go mobile when sourcing stock, say BCA

RESEARCH by BCA has revealed that 44 per cent of searches for stock are now from mobile devices.

The study of data reveals a growing dominance of smartphones and tablet when sourcing vehicles. Over 27 per cent of users used smartphones and 17 per cent used tablets when sourcing vehicles from BCA online stock search.

Stuart Gibbons, head of customer experience at BCA, said: ‘BCA continues to invest to ensure our customers can work with us across any platform. The growing trend of the motor trade to work remotely is driving the growth of mobile internet usage.’

While 56 per cent of users still access BCA stock through desktop devices, the company anticipates this will decline in the long-term.

The motor industry is following a wider trend. According to Ofcom, smartphones have overtaken laptops as the most popular device for getting online.

Two-thirds of people now own a smartphone, using it for nearly two hours every day to browse the internet, access social media, bank and shop online. It found that a third (33 per cent) of internet users see their smartphone as the most important device for going online, compared to 30 per cent who are still sticking with their laptop.

In May 2015, Google announced that mobile searches outnumbered desktop searches.
