Eden Motor Group acquires Basingstoke multi-franchise dealer

Time 8:43 am, April 25, 2013

edenlogoEDEN MOTOR GROUP has acquired a Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Hyundai and Mazda dealer in Basingstoke.

The Alan Gibson dealer, located not far off the M3, was previously owned by Lancaster Group – selling the premises to the dealer’s namesake, Alan Gibson, who later helped the premises gain franchises for Hyundai and Mazda.

Gibson, who had worked his way up the ranks of the dealership since joining aged 22 in 1975, also built up a successful Volvo dealership on a purpose-built site in the town. In 2010, the dealership was sold to Snows group – having chalked up an annual turnover of ‘up to £35 million’ in the year before, according to the Basingstoke Gazette.

The sale of this dealership, however, draws Gibson’s career to a close – with both he and his wife, who worked in credit control at the firm, taking the opportunity to retire.

The dealership will join Eden’s other sites in and around the south of England, including those in Reading, Exeter, Camberley and Fareham – but mark the only non-Vauxhall or Chevrolet premises that the group owns.
