Hyundai Motorsport crews surprise Shell customers ahead of Wales Rally GB

Time 10:15 am, November 11, 2015

THE full driving strength of the Hyundai Motorsport World Rally Championship team took over a Shell forecourt to offer customers free vehicle health checks and fill their cars with fuel.

In a collaboration between Shell UK and Hyundai Motor UK, Spanish heroes Dani Sordo and Marc Martí, Kiwi crew Hayden Paddon and John Kennard, Belgian winners Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul, and Dutch youngster Kevin Abbring with his British co-driver Sebastian Marshall launched the week-long ‘Experience Hyundai’ initiative at the Shell Black Cat retail station in Colwyn Bay, near Llandudno, on Monday.

Alongside technicians from the Hyundai Threeways Garage, all four driver crews were on hand to greet customers and offer them a free car inspection, an oil top-up with Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology and a fill of Shell’s premium V-Power fuel. Each health check customer also walked away with a report of any findings and an exclusive Shell Hyundai giveaway.

Paddon said: ‘Because of the remote nature of rally and the hundreds of miles of competitive stages, for us roadworthiness is paramount and as a driver crew we need to be able to repair any issues on the roadside at a moment’s notice – whether that is changing a punctured tyre or mending a damaged cooling system. It was great to meet local drivers and share this knowledge with them and with the UK winter just around the corner it’s good to know that they’re all set for the driving conditions to come.’

David Moss, general manager of Shell Retail North Europe, said: ‘As title sponsor and technical partner of the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team, we know the impact that our crews make around the world. That’s why we are delighted to join forces with Hyundai Motor UK to offer this exclusive opportunity to Shell customers, bridging the gap between our competition programme and the everyday motorist.’

Tony Whitehorn, president and chief executive of Hyundai Motor UK, said: ‘Now that Wales Rally GB is in sight, it’s fantastic that our WRC drivers are able to get involved with the local community by providing these crucial checks on Shell forecourts. With winter looming, it is so important to ensure your car is in perfect condition. I’m confident that the driver teams will be a great incentive for local motorists to get their cars checked.’
