LOOKERS is set to bolster employee numbers ahead of the opening of its new £4 million dealership in Stockport later this year, with building work well under way.

The group will be looking to appoint more than 20 additional employees, including technical and sales staff, product specialists and a receptionist, to join the seven-strong team already located in temporary premises at the site in St Mary’s Way.

screen-shot-2017-05-22-at-10-33-07Miles Alvis, franchise manager for Lookers Volvo, commented: ‘The new team who have been operating out of our temporary facility are making great inroads in re-establishing the Volvo name in Stockport and we have certainly seen a resurgence of interest in the brand.

‘With the build progressing to plan and just a few months before the finishing touches are made, we are now turning our attentions to our employment requirements.’

As Volvo reported its highest sales figures in 2016, which saw 46,696 cars sold, the build represents the brand’s return to South Manchester with the new dealership due to be completed by late November.

‘We envisage recruiting around 20 additional staff to undertake a wide range of positions which require both experienced staff and those new to the sector. We are looking for technicians, customer-facing staff and people to fill administrative and support roles as well as those who are looking for a career in sales,’ Alvis continued.

‘Lookers has been a franchised partner of Volvo since 2006 and we are very much enjoying bring the brand back to Stockport.’

Coinciding with the arrival of Volvo’s new XC60 at the facility, the showroom will include space for an eight-car display, with a separate vehicle handover area.

In keeping with Volvo’s new Scandinavian-inspired retail design, the centre will also include a Swedish style lounge area with ample seating and a dedicated area to work.
