Car Dealer buys Stig

Time 9:10 am, September 30, 2008

50746toy.jpgA West London Car dealer now owns The Stig!

Or, rather, THE 571G – the personalised number plate just sold by the DVLA.

And he paid royally for it – £10,690, or 26 times more than the £400 reserve. Owner Rick Fusari beat a dozen others in the running for the plate.

‘Like all motoring enthusiasts I’m a fan of Top Gear. Ironically, though, my mum always says she can’t stand ‘that man’ Jeremy Clarkson, but that won’t stop me going out and buying a white crash helmet.’

Fusari may have paid top dollar, but the free marketing in the national press he’s getting from it may just offset that. But we do hope he doesn’t take to commuting in a white helmet; we’ll be watching, to see what tricks he has up his sleeve.
