It is already one of the most successful and well-respected car dealerships in the county but Tom Hartley Jnr Ltd now has another title to celebrate.
That is because the Cotswolds-based outfit has scooped the Specialist Used Car Dealership prize at the 2025 Used Car Awards.
The category saw stiff competition – especially from Highly Commended firms, Auto-Sportiva and Lumen Automotive – but in the end it was Tom Hartley Jnr which took home the prize.
Despite selling only a handful of cars compared to most of the industry, the business recently clocked up profits that even some franchised car dealer groups would be pleased to get close to.
Last year, the company was chosen to sell Bernie Ecclestone’s 69-car collection of historic vehicles, which was eventually bought by Red Bull heir Mark Mateschitz for an undisclosed fee.
That was followed by a vast McLaren collection belonging to the company’s former boss, Mansour Ojjeh.
The group of 20 super-rare road cars was eventually sold to an unnamed buyer for an undisclosed fee, believed to run to eight figures.
Speaking after collecting the prize at the Used Car Awards, boss Tom Hartley Jnr was keen to reflect on a ‘phenomenal’ year for the business.
He said: ‘It has been a phenomenal year.
‘We sold the Formula One collection for Mr Ecclestone very early in the year and then not long after that we were very fortunate to be trusted with the Mansour Ojjeh McLaren collection.
‘We managed to sell both of those collections to separate individual buyers, which was a very proud moment to keep both collections together.
‘I just want to say thank you to everyone who decided this award. I saw the other nominees and they are also great companies – it’s just nice to get the nod this year.’
In recognition of the firm’s stellar performance, Hartley Jnr was also honoured with our Outstanding Achievement Award for 2025.
On hand to offer his own congratulations after the ceremony was Car Dealer editor-in-chief, James Baggott, who said: ‘Many congratulations to the team at Tom Hartley Jnr, and of course, to Tom himself.
‘What a year his business has had – astonishing and impressive in equal measure. They have triumphed in two key categories at our Used Car Awards so they should definitely feel proud of a pair of incredible achievements.’
Awards night host Mike Brewer added: ‘Quite often at the Used Car Awards, we say it was a difficult decision to decide the winner in a particular category.
‘However, Tom Hartley Jnr made it pretty easy for us in the Specialist Dealership category and Tom himself is a worthy winner of the Outstanding Achievement trophy thanks to a couple of stunning deals this year. Very well done!’
