Family-run car dealer Grainger Motor Group has gone back to its roots after agreeing a deal to acquire Chiswick Honda.

The firm has secured the West London site for an undisclosed fee from Norton Way Motors in a move of real significance for the outfit.

The three-acre Chiswick plot was originally opened by the Grainger family exactly 25 years ago, in October 2001, as Honda’s first European brand centre.

The return to the site also represents an expansion back into West London for the dealer group, while also adding Honda Motorcycles to its portfolio alongside its existing car operations.

The deal takes Grainger Motor Group’s network to 23 sales outlets, with 640 employees across Hertfordshire, East Anglia and West London.

For managing directors Harry and Neal Grainger, the move represents an emotional return home.

Harry said: ‘Chiswick Honda is a special dealership, not only for Honda but also for Neal and me personally, having helped build it up from the day it opened its doors back in 2001.

‘To have the opportunity to return to Chiswick, this time as part of Grainger Motor Group, is something we are both very proud of.

‘Most importantly, we are delighted to welcome the Chiswick Honda team to Grainger Motor Group.

‘There is a strong business already in place, with a great team and an important history, and our focus will be on building on those foundations and supporting the team as we move forward together.’

The move is the latest in a period of rapid expansion for Grainger Motor Group. Bosses say the firm is on track to exceed £425m in turnover during 2026, compared with £321m in 2025, and is targeting £500m of turnover by 2027.

Neal Grainger says returning to Chiswick is a ‘fantastic opportunity’ given the site’s history with the family.

He added: ‘Chiswick is a very special dealership and one that holds a lot of history for us. Returning to the site is a fantastic opportunity, particularly as we are able to do so with GMG and alongside the Honda team.

‘We have ambitious plans for Grainger Motor Group, but our approach remains the same as we continue to grow: to invest in our people, our customers and our businesses, while respecting and building on the strong foundations already in place.

‘We are excited about what the future holds for Chiswick Honda and for the wider Group, and we look forward to welcoming the team formally into Grainger Motor Group.’
