911for2011: We’ve only bagged a Merc!

Time 7:00 pm, November 24, 2010

merc2Well that didn’t take long! Just days after selling our last MX-5 we’ve bought the next car in our 911 for 2011 challenge.

Thanks to a very good trade deal from Marshall Group we’ve managed to secure this stunning Mercedes CLK Convertible for just £6,000!

Currently up for sale for £9,000 at the group’s Bolton Mercedes site, the 53-reg, 50,000-miler is absolutely packed with kit.

Chief executive Daksh Gupta has been following our challenge to turn £0 into a Porsche 911 by (sometime in) 2011 and when he heard we needed help he jumped on the case.

Just 24 hours after chatting to Gupta on the phone, the Marshall boss excitedly called us back with details of this corker.

‘It owes us a bit more than £6,000 but as this is for BEN – a cause that is very close to my heart and everyone else’s at Marshall, we’ll let you have it for that,’ explained Gupta.

‘I wanted to find you a car you could make a healthy profit on and after some research on Auto Trader it seems this car would be perfect.’

merc1That research he’s referring to is the fact that for this sort of money there’s nothing like this model available for less than £9k. Gupta suggests we put it up for £9,399 and see what happens.

‘At that sort of money most of the CLK convertibles are the old shape – this is the new model and is packed with equipment,’ he added.

The equipment list is indeed as long as the proverbial arm. Highlights include leather interior, rain sensitive wipers, alarm and immobiliser, climate control, front fog lights, and lots more.

Marshall Group recently bought a clutch of Mercedes dealers from dealer group Pendragon, which was one of the main reasons Gupta wanted to find us a Merc.

We plan to pick the new car up on Monday. We’re not yet sure of the MOT or tax situation but with £800 left over in our pot they’ll be a little bit left over to get it road legal if needed.

A right result I’m sure you’ll agree… that 911 will be here in no time. We hope.
