Volvo dealers in the UK are braced for an influx of nearly 170,000 cars into their workshops due to a recall concerning an ‘extremely rare’ seatbelt issue.
The models affected are the V70 and XC70, S60 and V60 (including Cross Country models), S80 and XC60 – all built between 2007 and 2018.
The recall is global and affects some 2.2m cars – the largest number of cars the Swedish brand has ever had to recall. Of those cars, 169,481 are in the UK.
A Volvo statement said it ‘has identified a problem regarding the front seat belt fastening, mounted on the outer side of the front seat. The front seat belt fastening cable may over time suffer from reduced strength under certain circumstances’.
The firm said the issue is ‘extremely rare’ and confirmed there have been no reports of any incidents relating to the problem.
Owners are being advised to put ‘the driver and passenger ensure that the seat belt fastening is in a vertical position, aligned with the backrest, so that it will not be bent over the seat cushion when entering the seat.
‘This will reduce the risk of damage of the seat belt fastening,’ the statement read.
Volvo UK anticipates to have all UK cars fixed by the end of the year.
