Marshall looks to future

sir-michael-robert-marshallSIR Michael Marshall, chairman of Marshall of Cambridge Holdings, has announced he’ll be splitting his role.

Sir Michael is currently chairman and chief executive of Marshall of Cambridge Holdingswhich owns Marshall Motor Holdings and its sister companies Marshall Aerospace, Marshall Land Systems and Cambridge Airport – but will split the role in January 2012 so his son, Robert Marshall, will become group chief executive. Sir Michael remains as executive chairman.

Daksh Gupta, chief executive of Marshall Motor Holdings, said: ‘The continuity and stability this will ensure, coupled with the commitment to the long term future of our automotive businesses, is great news for our colleagues and all stakeholders in Marshall Motor Group and Marshall Leasing.


‘Robert and I have worked closely over the last three years in his current role as executive chairman of Marshall Motor Holdings and this will continue when he moves into his new role.’

Making the announcement, Sir Michael said: ‘I am delighted that Robert will be taking on this responsibility for the Group and that he will be working with me, continuing our family’s close involvement with the day- to-day running of our businesses over four generations. We are enormously proud of what we have achieved over the last 102 years and look forward confidently towards the future.’

Robert Marshall said: ‘It is a privilege to have the opportunity to continue the family tradition and to follow in the footsteps of my father, grandfather and great-grandfather. By holding to the core values on which we have built all of our businesses, and by remaining independent, we have managed to modernise and adapt in each of our core businesses over the years to be in a position to take advantage of the many opportunities which have come our way.’
