UK BUYERS still have an image of Chevrolet being a gas-guzzling brand, believes one of the firm’s product managers.
Speaking exclusively to Car Dealer, Chevrolet product manager Zoe Lavender said despite new European products such as the Spark and Aveo, the UK public still thinks of Chevrolet as a brand that sells uneconomical cars.
‘I believe the brand has a perception among consumers of being a gas-guzzling one – which is a problem for us,’ said Lavender.
‘We have a got a great range of mostly European cars and two halo American cars, but I still think consumers mostly know of Chevrolets being gas-guzzlers.
‘We have got some work to do with brand perception but we are working hard on it. Spark is doing a good job to change this as is the Cruze. I think Aveo is a major opportunity for us.
‘The previous Aveo sold 4,500 units a year – I believe the new car could not only match this but beat it too.’
