NISSAN’S Ford Fiesta rivalling Note has gone into production at the firm’s Sunderland factory.
The start of production was marked with a ceremony yesterday on Line 2, which was hosted by Nissan’s senior vice president for manufacturing, purchasing and supply chain management in Europe, John Martin and the UK’s Minister of State for business and enterprise, Michael Fallon.
Following a £125m investment, secured for the UK with a £9.3m grant from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, the new Note is set to boost production at the Sunderland Plant.
It will also be responsible for 2,000 new jobs, including 400 new staff members at Sunderland.
Customers are keen to get hold of the brand’s new B-segment hatchback, as Nissan dealers across Europe have already taken more than 14,000 orders.
Fallon said: ‘The investment by Nissan to make the Note at the world class Sunderland plant has been achieved by Government and industry working together. It provides a very welcome boost to their exceptional workforce, the North East economy and the country.’
