Bangers4BEN: Insurance is pricey, isn't it?

Soon to be rid of it's hippy turquoise

INSURANCE is just a joke isn’t it? Why on earth they charge such ridiculous amounts for cover beggar’s belief.

Rant time…

I’ve just insured our Honda Civic bought for Bangers4BEN for the frankly ridiculous price of £621.47p.

That’s more than double what we paid for it.

We took out insurance with Admiral.com after searching the usual comparison sites but no matter what excess we added, how few miles we said we’d do per year or where we’d park it, we still got stung for 600 notes.

It’s a 1.4-litre for pete’s sake. A field has more horsepower than our turquoise warrior. If we break it we’re going to leave it in a ditch, not claim on the sodding cover. Argh!

And before you tell me it’s all because of the damage we would do when we plough through a coach load of French tourists, let me tell explain – this is a Civic and could about as much damage as a sponge.

In fact I’m more worried about Dunc and I disappearing in a disintegrating P-reg Honda, than I am about other road users.

And also, while I’m ranting, I want to know why when I changed the mileage to fewer per year on the policy did the price go UP?

And why, when I added an immobiliser – which it has got, by the way – did it go UP again? Are Honda immobilisers really that bad that they make a car less secure?

And why, when I took out the commuting element of the policy, did it again go UP? Most accidents happen at rush hour and as I work a mile away I never drive to the office. How can that make me MORE of a risk and justify more money?

Let’s be honest Admiral, it doesn’t does it? You’ve just worked out a way of sliding yet more money out of my wallet haven’t you?

Grrrr!

Anyway, Dunc and our work experience chap James Batchelor are off to Scotland in the Honda on Wednesday for the beginning of Project Stealth.

They’ll be filming the transformation for the website so keep your eye’s peeled for a full documentary on the operation soon.

Right, I’m off to take a chill pill. Or shout at the computer some more. To be honest, it’ll probably be the latter…
