#B4B: Cracking efforts

img_0827BANGERS4BEN is now well under way – and we’ve got an incredible collection of cars.

With 31 teams – including ourselves taking part – the trip from Dover to Maranello has already been an eventful one.

For those not in the know, Bangers4BEN challenges teams to find a car for less than £500 and drive it somewhere stupid and back again and then sell them in aid of the automotive industry charity.

As you’ve probably read, we’ve failed with our Volvo purchase (it’s been somewhat unreliable), but the other teams haven’t.

It would be unfair not to mention them all, but it’s too late and I’m too tired, but below are lots of pictures of some.

Highlights for me include the 300,000-mile black cab, the Baywatch Frontera with The Hoff proudly displayed on the back, the Shaguar, a bright orange Vauxhall Omega, and a Ghostbusters Vauxhall Astra complete with wailing siren and lights.

There’s a brave team in a Fiat Seicento complete with 1.1-litre engine – but it is a Michael Schumacher edition so that makes ALL the difference – and there’s a few brave souls in Alfa Romeos. Granted they’ve been more reliable than our Volvo so far, but there’s still time.

Oh and we’ve got to mention the Marshall’s Star Wars entry. Not only did the duo turn up as Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper, but they plastered their car in slogans (with a BEN theme) from the films.

My favourite? Sith Happens!

How very apt for our day…

We’ll update you again tomorrow with more tales of our trip and more pictures. But for now, Batch and I are so tired we’re falling asleep typing this.

Hopefully tomorrow HMS Ark Royal will be recommissioned with a little help from The AA and team Klarius who are amazingly trying to find us a new alternator. Fingers crossed eh…
