29.03.10: Car Dealer’s Ghost tour

Time 12:04 pm, March 30, 2010

ghost1THE Rolls Royce Ghost costs as much as a modest semi, so for the next 24 hours we’ll be living in one!

We picked up the £200,000 luxury limo from the factory this morning and are currently making our way from there to the New Forest, where commercial manager Dunc and I plan to camp in it.

We’ve packed our sleeping bags, got some disposable barbecues and a packet of marshmallows and are ready for a night of ‘luxury’.

Why are we subjecting ourselves to this? Well, Rolls Royce said we could only have the car for 24 hours so we decided to make the most of it.

They also said we had to park it somewhere secure overnight – we’re not sure how secure the New Forest is, but we’ll be sleeping in it so thieves would have to kidnap us too if they really wanted to take it.

There was another reason to this madness – the feature is an elaborate way of marking the publication of Car Dealer Exclusive, a special annual booklet produced exclusively for Car Dealer subscribers.

CDE is packed with features for dealers, top sales tips, a Big Mike special and countless offers for dealers.

Usually you can only get hold of one by subscribing to Car Dealer – £17.24 a year – but for the next 24 hours we’ll be handing them out to a few lucky dealers.

ghost2RULES

The main rule is we’re not allowed to pass a dealer – large or small – without going in an handing over a copy.

We’re also not allowed to use motorways. Why we added that rule in I’m not quite sure, but we did.

So, if you run a dealership on the south coast, watch out – we may be popping in. If we do, a strong black coffee would be gratefully received.

We plan to produce a video of our adventure for the website and the full feature will appear in the next issue of Car Dealer, so make sure you subscribe to check it out.
