Chevrolet in talks with UK network on its future

Time 10:22 am, December 5, 2013

f77d1d6f-252f-47a2-96fc-719fd46c6102CHEVROLET is to hold discussions with its UK dealer network today to discuss its future.

Within the last hour, General Motors announced it is to pull the Chevrolet brand from Europe in order to focus on Opel and Vauxhall.

But the future for dealers that hold a Chevrolet franchise in the UK is, at the moment, unclear.

‘We were only told of the announcement this morning,’ a spokesperson told Car Dealer. ‘As I speak, our national sales team is in discussions with our dealer network.

‘By the end of the day, we will have spoken to all of our network and be working on a forward plan.’

The spokesperson confirmed that the immediate future for Chevy dealers and customers is safe, so there’s no need to panic.

‘We are not closing our doors any time soon,’ the spokesperson said. ‘We have contractual obligations which we will be abiding to, and fully supporting our authorised repairers.’

Around 70 per cent of Chevrolet’s network is dual-franchise with Vauxhall – the American brand will be speaking to the remaining solus dealers ‘over the coming weeks and months’.

There are current discussions that General Motors will continue to sell North American-derived vehicles in Europe and the UK, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
