CHEVROLET’S managing director Mark Terry has all but ruled-out a tuned version of the Aveo coming to the UK.
The Chevy boss exclusively told Car Dealer that a mixture of market dynamics and model range structure could make the introduction of a hotter Aveo unlikely.
Called the RS, a performance version of the Aveo – or Sonic in the US – was shown off at the Detroit Motor Show.
It was reported to have a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol unit developing 136bhp – but what suits America doesn’t suit the UK it would seem.
‘There are no plans for the car to come to the UK at the moment,’ Terry told us. ‘The situation in America is different from that here. In difference to the Americans, we are a little bit skeptical of introducing tuned versions of our models to the range.’
Terry added that due to a strong motor racing presence at the moment and ‘two great halo models’, he does not want ‘the attention to be taken away’ from them.
He said: ‘If you ask me whether I would prefer to have a special sports range or nine brand new products for 2012, I would take the latter. It makes more sense as far as I am concerned.’
