THE latest edition of Car Dealer Magazine is ready to be downloaded to your iPad – completely FREE of charge!

It’s a year since news of the dieselgate scandal broke, and Volkswagen has undoubtedly had a tough 12 Screen Shot 2016-09-16 at 14.49.54months – but there has been at least one good reason to crack open the bubbly in 2016: the 40th birthday of its iconic hot hatch, the Golf GTI.

Never ones to miss a celebration, we decided to devise our own way of marking the occasion, so set about organising a classic-versus-modern head-to-head.

We took an original Mk1 Golf GTI to Wales to meet its present-day namesake in order to see how the recipe for the definitive hot hatch has changed in the intervening decades – and how it’s stayed the same.

Volkswagen chose the anniversary to release the most potent version of the GTI yet, the Clubsport S. This stripped-down model holds the front-wheel-drive Nurburgring lap time crown and we put it through its paces in issue 103.

Elsewhere in the mag, we visit what must surely be the most luxurious Audi dealership in the UK, which comes complete with its own beauty salon and spa. We put the new Porsche Panamera Turbo and the Kia Optima Sportswagon through their paces and look at the celebrations dealerships organised to mark plate-change day on September 1.

With the usual invaluable dose of legal advice from Lawgistics, contributions from our regular columnists such as Big Mike, James Litton and James Baggott, Issue 103 of Car Dealer is not to be missed.
