MIKE WHITTINGTON has been promoted to Mercedes-Benz Retail Group’s managing director, with effect from January 2013.

Joining Mercedes-Benz back in June 2007, Whittington previously held management positions within Toyota, Lexus and Peugeot – later becoming Mercedes-Benz Retail Group’s sales director.

Whittington takes over Neil Williamson, who will now be heading up Mercedes-Benz South Africa’s passenger car division.

‘I am delighted to promote Mike to this position as head of Mercedes-Benz Retail Group, and to the Mercedes-Benz UK board,’ said Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO Mercedes-Benz UK.

‘Mike has a wide breadth of experience gained over the years with different brands, as well as experience of our own dealer network. He has been a key figure in successfully driving our record-breaking UK sales growth over recent years.’

Whittington commented: ‘I’m very excited to have the opportunity to lead the fantastic team at Mercedes-Benz Retail Group during a period of enormous change for Mercedes-Benz.

‘My role as Sales Director has been very rewarding, and I’m committed to making an even bigger positive difference to my new role, from January 2013.’
