p90121885BMW dealers can look forward to offering two even madder M models later this year.

The German firm has given customers the option of purchasing Competition Package models of its newly-refreshed M5 and M6 models.

Competition Package versions get a horsepower rise to around 573bhp each and the 0-60mph time has also been slashed. The sprint to 60 takes just 4.2 seconds in the M5 and 4.1 seconds in the M6 Coupe and Gran Coupe. The M6 Convertible is 0.1 seconds slower, though.

The new design features that have recently been introduced to the 5 Series range also make their appearance on the M5 Competition Pack. There’s also a new M double-spoke kidney grille and a new M steering wheel with M DCT gear-shift paddles.

Meanwhile, new taillights complete the visual makeover.

Customers after the spicier M5 will have to stump up an extra £6,700 on the M5 saloon and £6,500 on the M6 coupe, taking the overall asking prices to £80,205 and £100,680 respectively.

But BMW is making sure customers don’t feel short-changed with Competition Package models getting adjustable Sport suspension settings, Sport steering, Sport exhaust with Black Chrome exhaust tailpipes and exclusive 20-inch double-spoke M light-alloy wheels.

Both spicy M cars also get the Active M differential. It’s tuned to enhance cornering and improve performance on track, while the M Dynamic Mode has been adjusted to allow for higher thresholds before the traction control systems kick in.
