Provenance Check Provider of the Year – Car Dealer Power Awards 2020

Time 2:01 pm, September 29, 2020

Used car sales have been strong to say the least in 2020.

For many franchised dealers used cars propped up next-to-zero new car sales, while for independents who usually trade in used cars, 2020 has been like no other year.

For all dealers, however, getting hold of the right stock to replace gaping holes on forecourts has been hard so having a good provenance check provider has never been so important. The chances of buying a dodgy car with poor history has risen exponentially.

A decent provenance check is a car dealers’ best friend, and this year dealers couldn’t rate serial Power award winners Cap HPI highly enough.

‘We’ve been very busy! Some of our team have worked all the way through lockdown and they’re shattered,’ says Cap HPI’s Wendy Swain.

‘The volumes we have seen coming through are way beyond this time last year, and we’ve been watching it with interest on both sides of the business – for Cap with valuations and for provenance with HPI – and watching that drop-off and pick-up in the market.’

Dealers voted Cap HPI as the best in the market for provenance checks, but why is the firm different from its competitors?

‘It’s the accuracy of our data – we get the thumbprint of the vehicle,’ says Swain.

‘Our data, with the help of DVLA data, is as up-to-date as possible. Some of our competitors don’t have data that’s as up to date as ours.

‘It’s also our level of service – our teams are working seven days a week, we have key account managers and a dedicated customer support team.’

A renewed focus in 2020 has been Cap HPI’s editorial team speaking to the market.

‘We’ve been getting our editors a lot more engaged directly with the large dealer groups and we’ve been running webinars for them,’ says Swain.

‘We’ve found our editorial team to be a lot more in touch with the dealer network, and that has been really beneficial for values.’

And any goals for 2021? ‘It’s simple – delivering the right service for the dealer.’
