Vauxhall to ‘overtake Ford by 2016’

Time 8:17 am, September 17, 2013

VX_13056It’s quite a claim to make and one that will have many in the industry spluttering out their coffee – apparently Vauxhall thinks it can usurp Ford from the top of the sales charts in just TWO years.

Despite a lackluster range and disappointing sales in the UK compared to the market leader, chairman and MD Duncan Aldred believes ‘jolly hard work’ will see them take the top spot.

As of August, Vauxhall were some 40,000 cars behind Ford in the sales charts – that’s more cars than Chevrolet, Dacia, Jaguar and Porsche have sold in the whole of 2013 COMBINED.

‘We will be overtaking Ford by 2016,’ he told The Daily Mail. ‘Just after the middle of the decade I expect us to be number one. So I have very high hopes for the Vauxhall brand in the UK.’

He added the development of engine technology, growth in retail sales and improvements in its dealer network would be the cause.

Ford isn’t convinced though. A spokesman said: ‘Vauxhall has always been feisty, but it’s been saying this kind of thing for 10 years.’
