Renault axes dealers

Time 7:21 pm, December 19, 2011

renault_geneva_2AROUND 55 Renault dealers across the UK will close in 2012 as the French firm cuts back on its model range, the company has announced today.

At the moment, the French manufacturer has 190 dealers across the country. But that figure is set to plummet to ‘around’ 135, a Renault spokesperson told Car Dealer.

‘We currently have too many dealers, and by reducing the number of outlets, the number of units sold will also reduce.

‘We are looking to get down to around 135 dealers; negotiations are ongoing to decide where the closures will take place.’

Car Dealer contacted a number of dealers but it would appear the news had yet to reach them this afternoon.

GORDINI GOES

THE trim level Gordini will also be axed in Feburary, Car Dealer can exclusively reveal.

The model range, which included the Twingo 133 Gordini and Clio 200 Gordini and others, will disappear from UK price lists on February 1, 2012.

Gordini, as a trim level, appeared last year and revived the great tuning name to Renault models.
