Trade body helping dealers

Time 9:26 am, October 30, 2008

DEALERS are meeting with the NFDA to discover how the association is helping them during the current economic downturn.

Director Sue Robinson has attended a series of meetings with franchised dealers across the country.

‘Due to the prevailing economic climate, the NFDA has stepped up its work with businesses, providing vital support and advice,’ said Robinson.

What’s more, the NFDA has also been meeting with Government, as well as other industry chiefs, to find out how to reignite buyer confidence. This, reckons the NFDA is key to getting things moving again.

As such, it’s outlined a series of recommendations, which Car Dealer has summarised:

•    Further interest rate reductions
•    Additional finance for the banking sector
•    Repossession to be an absolute last resort
•    Short-term tax reductions
•    Measures to reduce household costs for families

Interestingly, the NFDA is also speaking with the SMMT, about a number of issues that, it says, will benefit both manufacturers and dealers.

Could this include some sort of vehicle scrapping scheme, we wonder, where motorists are given rebates off new cars when scrapping an older one?

The NFDA also reminds dealers that its member helpline is there, for anyone who need advice: 01788 538 307
