German vehicle marketplace mobile.de has agreed to acquire Carwow’s German business as part of a deal designed to strengthen its new car, leasing and used vehicle sourcing operations.

The companies have signed a definitive agreement for mobile.de to acquire Carwow Germany, although the deal remains subject to regulatory approval. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

In a statement, Carwow Group said Carwow.de will retain its existing brand, team and leadership following completion, with CEO Philipp Sayler von Amende remaining in the role.

The business will also continue operating its auction platform, which allows dealers to source used cars directly from consumers across Germany.

Mobile.de said the acquisition would combine its reach and marketplace expertise with Carwow.de’s technology and capabilities in new car sales, leasing and dealer stock sourcing.

It intends to invest further in the German operation and accelerate development of its services for dealers and manufacturers.

Carwow Germany launched 10 years ago and has developed a focus on transaction-led new car sales, leasing and vehicle configuration.

Carwow Group CEO John Veichmanis said the deal would allow the company to concentrate its efforts on its other markets.

‘We are incredibly proud of what we have built in Germany since launching 10 years ago and are pleased to have found the right partner in mobile.de that will steward the brand in Germany,’ he said.

‘This shift allows us to sharpen our focus as we continue to innovate and accelerate our growth in the UK and Spain.’

Mobile.de CEO Ajay Bhatia said Carwow had built a business that went beyond traditional classified listings.

‘Carwow has built something genuinely impressive in Germany – helping dealers and OEMs sell new cars through a transaction-focused customer journey that goes well beyond traditional listings,’ he said.

He added that its leasing operation and expertise in new car search, configuration and build-to-order journeys were capabilities mobile.de wanted to invest in.

The two businesses will remain completely separate until regulatory approval is received, with no operational integration taking place before completion.

Once the deal closes, Carwow.de will receive a perpetual licence to use the Carwow brand in Germany.

Founded in 1996, mobile.de is part of Adevinta and claims an average of more than 1.6 million cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and e-bikes listed on its platform during 2025.

It recorded more than 140 million visits per month on average during the year, according to its Google Analytics data.
