Hendy Group commercial director Mark Busby is to leave the south coast-based dealer after more than 25 years with the business.
The long-serving motor trade executive announced his departure in a post on LinkedIn, describing the decision to leave the south coast retailer as ‘difficult’.
Busby has spent more than a quarter of a century with Hendy and said the business had shaped his career during that time.
He has now decided to move on in order to pursue ‘a new challenge’, which will see him use his experience to help other organisations tackle operational issues within the automotive sector.
Announcing his departure, Busby said: ‘After more than 25 years, I’ve made the difficult decision to leave Hendy Group.
‘It’s strange writing that sentence. Two and half decades is a long time to spend anywhere — long enough to grow up in a career, make lifelong friends, and be shaped by a business as much as I like to think I have helped shape it.
‘I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved together. The people, the challenges we tackled, the wins we celebrated — I’ll carry all of it with me.’
Explaining his decision to move on, Busby added: ‘I’m ready for a new challenge, one with a clear sense of purpose: helping other organisations find solutions to the operational problems in the sector, the stuff I’ve spent my career working through from the inside.’
Busby did not reveal further details about his next venture but said he was looking forward to what comes next.
For now, however, he remains focused on his final period with Hendy, signing off his announcement by saying it was ‘all about delivering a Q3 result’.
He added: ‘To everyone at Hendy — thank you. For the trust, the growth, and everything in between.’
The well-known dealer group, which also has the honour of being Ford’s oldest UK retailer, has seen a few changes on its board so far in 2026.
Former Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson joined the firm as non-executive director in June, while chief operating officer Duncan McPhee stepped down from his role in May just days after the company announced heavy losses for 2024.
