ANY hopes Bangers4BEN bid will go smoothly collapsed in spectacular style today – with a warning from the doc.
I’ve been quite ill the last few weeks with stomach pain and I’m off my food in a major way.
Without boring you with the details it turns out a serious complaint I had back in 2002 has made an unwelcome return.
I saw the quack this morning and he was rather concerned about the trip – wanting instead to admit me to hospital.
After some plea-bargaining I managed instead to get away with an urgent scan when I get back. So the challenge is still on!
It’s been such a stressful day though. I’ve managed to finally get my hands on all four sets of snow chains with a bit of help from Dan (we better need them after this trouble), and I’ve had to go out an buy a video camera because of problems with the post (damn you Parcel Force).
The new laptop hasn’t arrived either – and the eBay seller has gone AWOL – so looks like I’ll have to persuade Dan to bring his so we can keep you updated on the trip!
I still haven’t packed. In fact I haven’t worked out exactly what we need which kind of makes the task difficult.
And to add to the stresses of the day I’ve had to send the latest issue of the mag to the printers. It went reasonably smoothly but that always makes me worry even more!
At least the interview on BBC Radio Solent went okay this morning – you can listen on iPlayer now if you want. Just fast forward to about an hour and 10 minutes in.
I had to comment on Clarkson’s latest rant – he does know how to kick up a storm, doesn’t he – but I did manage to get a decent plug in for BEN, our chosen charity.
Make sure you keep a check on the website tomorrow to find out what we’ve bought and how we’ve got on!
Right, I’m off to fill the car boot…

WHAT IS BANGERS4BEN?
The Car Dealer team and friends have been handed £200 each by the bosses to spend on a banger that will get them from Portsmouth to John O’Groats and back in three days.
We’ll be taking in a trackday on day one thanks to Motorsport Vision, an MPG marathon on day two when we’ll get (hopefully) to the tip of Scotland.
Then, on day three, we travel the 650 miles home. Yes, it will be tough. Yes, it will be cold. And yes, we may break down, but one thing’s for sure – it’s bound to be eventful.
