WE’VE had a BMW 1-Series convertible here in on test for the past few days. And, despite the miles we’ve done in it, the roof hasn’t been down once.
This wasn’t part of the plan!
When we booked it, way back when, we chose July as the idea time to do a bit of sun-seeking. This sector of car is certainly booming in terms of manufacturer interest, and we wanted to sample some of the experience that’s drawing so many to the showrooms.
The British ‘summer’ has put paid to that. We half-thought about dropping the roof today, but the rain was so heavy, we’d have had to racked up some speed to prove the theory that if you’re going quickly enough, you don’t get wet. Even getting in soaked the door panel and seat.
So, on a day where the tabloids are predicting monsoons for the UK, how are your cabrio sales holding up? Is there much interest in the drop-top range makers such as BMW and Audi have timed so carefully to coincide with summer? Are people still buying 207 CCs, and Volkswagen Eos, and Volvo C70s?
Or has casual passing interest dried up like the entire summer shows no signs of doing? Drop us a line with your feedback and we promise to respond. If we haven’t drowned…
Yours like a damp squib,
Richard.
