THE market for used four-wheel drive vehicles is rising, reflecting both the onset of winter and the growth of the industry as a whole, according to Auto Trader.
Statistics published by the DVLA showed an increase in used car transactions, to the tune of three per cent year-on-year during the July to September period for 2015. Year to date used car transactions are also growing, up by 4.2 per cent and 225,000 units year-on-year.
It was the 4×4 sector in particular that performed the most strongly, with used sales of large and small off-roaders rising by 9.1 per cent year-on-year. Auto Trader suggests that this is due to the time of year, as weather conditions worsen.
Auto Trader has also revealed the top 10 most searched for 4x4s on its website, from July to September. They are:
1. BMW X5
2. Range Rover
3. Range Rover Sport
4. BMW X3
5. Mercedes-Benz M-Class
6. Honda CR-V
7. VW Touareg
8. Range Rover Evoque
9. Toyota RAV4
10. Audi Q5
Karolina Edwards-Smajda, retailer and consumer products director at Auto Trader, said: ‘The current increasing levels of used car transactions are a bi-product of the strong new car registrations that have been experienced over the last few years, with these vehicles now re-entering the used car market.
‘Transactions for nearly new cars less than one year-old and cars between one and three years old are fuelling the growth, showing an increase of 8 per cent and 15 per cent year-on-year respectively.’
