Black Book print edition coming to an end

Time 12:01 am, December 15, 2015

CAP is calling time on print editions of its valuation guides to focus on delivering its information and services digitally.

Users will be able to order a print edition until April 2016, meaning the final print edition will be delivered in April 2017. Print subscribers will be offered a three-month free trial of the digital version from next month.

Black Book was first published in 1979 and became synonymous with used vehicle valuations. Print users have dwindled in recent years, though, as the guide has grown to contain more than 60,000 vehicle IDs.

Joining it in its move to digital at the same time will be sister publications the Green and Red Books, with all three moving to digital subscriptions as CAP concentrates on developing its services across the mobile and web platforms.

Derren Martin, senior editor at CAP Black Book, said: ‘Our digital services offer quick and easy access to real-time pricing, whether you are at your desk or using a smartphone while on the move.

‘We aim to deliver the most reliable data in the industry across the widest range of digital platforms. The coming months will see a host of innovations that take our services to the next level and help customers work efficiently in an ever-more-connected automotive industry.’

CAP recently announced plans to significantly expand its digital capabilities. It hired Joel Albyn, a former director of product management and global ecommerce strategy for retail giant Walmart, as director of innovation and product management.

He will lead the roll-out of new data products and devise new digital strategies. The company is also recruiting 20 staff to enhance its digital and data capabilities. Job roles will include a head of market intelligence, database developers, software developers and data analysts.
