Our trusty Peugeot 406 made the 1500 mile round trip easily

THE Bangers4BEN road trip might be over – but now the important bit begins – cashing our cars in!

The whole reason for our trip to John O’Groats and back again in our £250 cars was to sell them for a profit at the end.

That’s why next Wednesday we’ll be holding a special auction at BCA where we’ll find out who is the ultimate Bangers4BEN MkII winner.

But that will have to wait until next week.

Yesterday our teams completed the 350-mile last leg from Berwick-upon-Tweed to the finish line at Mercedes Benz World at Brooklands.

After a grand total of about 12 hours sleep in two days the Car Dealer team were going slightly stir crazy, but a combination of coffee and Red Bull kept us awake. VERY awake.

We arrived at Mercedes Benz World around 3pm and the remaining teams took to the track for a few celebratory laps.

Fortunately no one binned it – that would have seriously affected their residual values for auction – and we made the presentations for two of our three Banger awards.

The first went to the best decorated car and was chosen by BEN representatives. This couldn’t really have gone to anyone else but the Hyundai ‘Rolls Royce’ team.

On the first day they arrived complete with blow up bride and for day two had replaced ‘her’ for Lord Alan Sugar who they transported to John O’Groats.

How PR manager Tom is going to explain a blow-up doll on his expenses deserved the award alone in my book…

And our second award went to the Top Twit – judged by Car Dealer deputy ed Richard Aucock. He was following the event along with many other people on Twitter and gave the gong to the team he thought was the most entertaining throughout.

That award went to Gareth from Team Honda. One of the nutters who went for a swim in the stinking water at John O’Groats.

Our thanks go out to all the teams that took part in Bangers4BEN. Many have raised huge amounts of money via sponsorship already before we’ve even sold the cars so we look set to raise a real impressive total.

Fingers crossed.

Make sure you subscribe to Car Dealer Magazine to read all about the big event in our next issue and maybe you’ll be taking part with us next year. I think then we’ll have to make fancy dress mandatory…
