Cazoo named as one of UK’s top start-ups for 2019 – before it’s even started!

CAR buying and rental website Cazoo has been ranked number 13 in this year’s Startups 100 list – despite not having launched yet.

The list is the longest-running annual index of its kind and ranks the country’s top disruptive, fast-growth new businesses for qualities such as innovation and economic impact.

Cazoo, one of the best-funded new tech businesses in the UK, aims to ‘transform the way people buy used cars’ by letting customers buy, finance or rent a used car online and have it delivered to their door in 48 hours.

It was founded in 2018 by Alex Chesterman, pictured, who also set up Zoopla and Lovefilm, and has since acquired more than £30m of funding for the venture.

Chesterman said: ‘We’re delighted to have made this list before we have even launched. The list has previously identified some very successful UK businesses early on, and whilst we are just getting started, we’re pleased our potential has been recognised ahead of our launch later this year.’

The list was judged by a host of business leaders, and Startups.co.uk editor Bryn Glover said: ‘We had more entries than ever and the standard was especially high, so being included is a fantastic achievement.

‘We have a good track record of identifying potential – Deliveroo, Zoopla, Monzo and HelloFresh and many more – so we can’t wait to watch the businesses progress over the coming years.’
