STAFF at a Wigan Volkswagen dealership are celebrating the dealer’s 16th anniversary of business.

Corkills has represented Volkswagen in the north west since 1991, and is the longest established independent Volkswagen retailer group in the region. It also acquired Wigan Motor Company in 1996.

Starting with a team of only 15, Corkills Wigan now employees 45 highly trained Volkswagen specialists and has confirmed its commitment to the Wigan team and customers with the arrival of a new state-of-the-art extended showroom, planned for later this year.

The Wallgate Volkswagen site has served Wigan drivers with their automotive needs since 1984 but it’s since the Corkills acquisition that the business has grown, with a turnover in excess of £20m last year.

Corkills Volkswagen’s managing director Adrian Kermode said: ‘Corkills Wigan worked out of a port-a-cabin in the car park during our last refurbishment in 2003. This time it will be a total re-build as we invest around £1m in the new showroom, so for a while it will be back to a port-a-cabin but think we all agree it will be worth it.

‘I am particularly pleased and proud to have eight employees from the original team still with us. We carefully select our team to ensure they have the best skills and knowledge to meet customers’ expectations and are always looking for suitable individuals to help grow our team.

‘In a recent Volkswagen staff survey, out of 260 Volkswagen retailers, Corkills Wigan was identified as being in the top 10 sites for staff satisfaction and contentment in their work, this in turn can be “felt” by our customers visiting.

‘I would like to thank the entire Corkills Volkswagen team for their dedication and commitment and look forward to future successes.’
