ITALIAN firm Fiat has announced that its retro supermini, the 500, has clocked up 100,000 sales in the UK.

The news follows April’s official UK sales figures that showed the 500 was placed inside the top 10 best sellers with 2,600 vehicles sold.

SInce its launch four and half years ago, 80 per cent of all 500 sales have been 1.2-litre petrol engine versions, while eight per cent of sales are of the new 0.9-litre two cylinder TwinAir version.

Lounge trim is the most popular winning a share of 48 per cent, and the most popular colour choices are Bossanova white, Pasodoble red, Volare light blue and the metallic Crossover black

‘We were always confident that the 100,000 landmark would come,’ said Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd. ‘It’s a wonderful achievement and I am sure that we will see many more sales successes in the years to come.’
