Future Volvo R cars?

Time 5:29 am, April 18, 2011

260907_75_volVOLVO’S business development manager Kevin Meeks says the firm has not ruled out future Volvo ‘R cars’.

Speaking exclusively to Car Dealer, Meeks agreed that while the firm is concentrating on DRIVe cars at the moment, the glory days of 850 T5-R, 850R, V70R and S60R could return in the future.

‘Undoubtedly part of our success over the past few years has been due to DRIVe and our diesel engines – 92 per cent of Volvos sold in the UK are diesel,’ said Meeks.

‘But do remember we can satisfy Volvo performance fans at the moment. By specifying one of our cars with the R-Design pack customers can effectively create a modern day R car, and there’s also the exciting relationship between Volvo and Polestar.

‘But is there space for R cars in the future? I think there probably is; what that will look like I can’t say at this stage. We’re not an overtly sporty brand, but to have a halo R car is not beyond the wit of imagination to happen.’
