RMIF and SMMT chiefs have met with business secretary Lord Mandleson.
The two dealer bodies drove home car dealers’ concerns about the state of tine industry at Thursday’s meeting.
We’ve covered what the SMMT said, but how about the RMIF? Chairman Paul Williams had two agendas – business rates and VED road tax changes.
‘The Chancellor has attempted to address the problem of Business Rates Relief, but in doing so, hasn’t even scratched the surface,’ said Williams.
And road tax? ‘The RMIF has been lobbying on this issue for some time, due to the impact on profit and cash flow.’
That’s all the RMIF is saying for the moment, though. Curiously, it said two further areas were discussed – ‘both of which would help reinvigorate the marketplace, and stimulate consumer demand.’
But it wasn’t saying what these schemes were, other than that they ‘will be pursued further by all parties.’
How curious. More of this as and when we find out…
