TomTom reveals UK voice

Time 5:27 pm, December 9, 2010

siena-0000_image_tcm131-6414TOMTOM has revealed the winner of its ‘voice of UK’ – a nationwide search for a new voice for its sat navs.

Alan Medroft from South Gloucestershire will be the new UK voice of TomTom sat nav. Members of the public were invited to record a 30 second video of themselves telling a story about traffic in a campaign fronted by the actor Brian Blessed – whose own booming voice was recently released.

Medroft, 34, will join a list of celebrities who have lent their voices to navigation instructions – including John Cleese, Billy Connolly, Homer Simpson and Darth Vader.  He will record the 52 commands in a studio next Monday and it will be available to download in the New Year, as a free alternative to the standard computer voice.  He also wins a New Renault Mégane Coupé Cabriolet with built-in TomTom sat nav.

Lyndal Newman from TomTom, said: ‘We were looking for someone to be as creative as possible for the new Voice of TomTom in the UK.  Alan was chosen from hundreds of entries as our choice to help drivers across the country avoid the bottlenecks and queues.’
