Screen shot 2014-02-18 at 10.00.26A CAR dealer who succumbed to flood water has thanked Twitter users for coming to his rescue.

Dan James, owner of Dan James Cars, and his business based near Shepperton, was hit by flooding on Christmas Day – and the crisis has since got worse.

‘I had friends and family digging cars out of my premises on Christmas Day!’ Dan told Car Dealer. ‘Up until today, my stock has been looked after by my dad and neighbours because my premises are totally flooded.’

The site is currently under two feet of water, but Dan has managed to find facilities to securely store the vehicles allowing customers to still view and buy cars.

However, during the crisis, Dan’s father Robert took to Twitter to shout about his son’s plight – and tens of Twitterers offered help.

‘The response was amazing,’ said Dan. ‘Luckily we had found some storage ourselves, but there were loads of dealers and people in the motor trade putting our news out there and offering help.’
