AVERAGE earnings in the UK have risen by a fifth in five years.
Since 2003, the average full-time wage has risen from £25,939 to £31,500. This is an increase of 21 per cent.
In the same period, retail prices have risen by 18 per cent.
Regionally, average earnings have risen most in London – 24% – since 2003. The smallest increases, 18 per cent, were in the East and Wales.
The country’s highest earners work in the City of London, where the average annual salary is £82,084.
