CD writers’ awards

Time 11:18 pm, September 9, 2011

headline-autoCAR DEALER’S writers have been recognised in the prestigious Headline Auto Awards.

The awards celebrate outstanding achievements in motoring journalism and communications.

Staff writer James Batchelor scooped the Rising Star of the Year Award (Business).

Batchelor’s submissions included Seat’s 25 years in the UK feature, an interview with Peter Vardy junior, and a feature describing the role car valeting has in the industry.

Batchelor’s submissions earned some excellent comments from the judges, including: ‘Engaging, informative, nicely structured: James’ work ticks all the boxes.’

Editorial director James Baggott finished in second place in the Editor of the Year category, beating Diesel Car’s Ian Robertson and Autocar editor Jim Holder.

Baggott was narrowly beaten by What Car?’s new editor Chas Hallett, with two judges putting the Car Dealer editor at the top of their lists.

The judges said: ‘Car Dealer is a remarkable success story and shows what enthusiasm, passion and sheer hard work can achieve.’

Another praised Baggott for ‘building Car Dealer into a product that doesn’t just talk trade but provides an entertaining and informative regular read for anyone connected with the business. He has an eye for an opportunity and refuses to get bogged down in a trade-rut.’

Baggott received high recognition in the News Writer of the Year category too. His entry of an exclusive on Tesco Cars earned him an excellent second place – he was pipped again by one point by Autocar’s Hilton Holloway – and prompted one judge to say: ‘The Tesco story does a great job in exploring deeper implications to the wider marketplace.’
