JLR halts factory for 2wks

Time 6:07 pm, January 19, 2009

JAGUAR Land Rover is the latest carmaker to halt production at its UK factory – stopping lines for two weeks.

The Castle Bromwich facility, which puts XF, XJ and XK models together, employs about 3,500 people.

The latest shut down – which follows Honda’s announcement last week that it will shut its plant for FOUR MONTHS – comes days after JLR workers returned from a three-week halt.

The depressing news also follows JLR’s announcement to cut jobs last week.

Aston Martin, Bentley, GM, Honda, Toyota, Mini and Nissan have all either cut production, shortened working weeks or halted factories completely as the credit crunch hits the car industry.
