VAUXHALL is cutting production at its Ellesmere Port plant and has confirmed that staff will be laid off on full pay for two days this month and two days in July as a result.
The car giant has cut 3,000 vehicles from its annual production targets for the plant which makes the Astra model, reported the Liverpool Echo.
One worker said: ‘They said because of the state of the economy and the pound against the euro they are losing 3,000 cars from the build. They are losing 15,000 cars across Europe. Everyone realises it is the way the economy is, but nothing was mentioned about job losses.’
A Vauxhall Motors spokeswoman declined to comment but confirmed the announcement had been made at the plant.
