22.07.10: Yes, we really have bought this…

Time 2:14 am, July 22, 2010

365398_60685hyu_i10_fc_1NO, you’re not hallucinating – that really is a Hyundai i10 with a giant football bolted on top.

And yes, it does have green grass all over the bodywork, and yes, that is a goal post bolted to the bonnet. Oh, and yes those are football boots as wing mirrors.

And did I mention we’ve just bought it as our latest purchase in our 911 for 2011 feature?

While you wipe the coffee of your computer screen, hear me out on this one…

This is an 09-plate Hyundai i10, it’s got 12 months tax, has only a 1,000 miles on the clock and is one of only TWO in the world.

It was painstakingly produced by car artist Andy Saunders for Hyundai UK to celebrate the World Cup and really isn’t just a car – it’s a work of art.

We’ve managed to snap it up for a rock bottom price and even have the cost underwritten – so if we don’t sell it for what we bought it for we can always get our money back.

So what’s the plan? Well, there is one, you’ll be pleased to hear. It involves a lot of pictures, a video and some promotional work Max Clifford would be proud of.

We’ll be penning an eBay listing showcasing every minute detail about the i10 and coordinating a PR campaign offensive to make sure every football mad dealer, football club and fan gets to see it.

I’m pretty confident that with the right amount of publicity, this little Hyundai i10 could add a healthy profit in our quest to turn £0 into a Porsche 911.

There’s even a celebrity connection – this was one of two cars Jeremy Clarkson used in his video Duel.

Yes, it’s barking mad – but I like that. It was also too good an opportunity to turn down. I’m just a little worried about the wife – she hasn’t seen it yet and is going to go absolutely spare, especially as it’s living on the drive until we flog it.

Better get cracking then… wish us luck!

James
