A BRAND new 18-plate Mercedes-Benz V-Class has become the first vehicle with the new UK registration format to be seized by the police – before it had even made it to its new owner.
Metropolitan Police road traffic officers pulled the black MPV over in Greenwich last night and discovered that its driver was not insured.
The V-Class was being delivered for collection by a customer this morning and would have been one of the first vehicles to leave dealerships with the latest 18-plate. This started from midnight lastr night and meant that at the time it was caught the new registration wasn’t even official.
The delivery driver had failed to fix the trade plates to the exterior of the MPV, instead leaving them wrapped in plastic in a bag. This meant that the vehicle was technically being driven without insurance.
Writing on Twitter, Metropolitan Police Roads and Transport Command said:
Are the Vehicle Enforcement Team at Charlton the 1st in the UK to seize a 18 Plate Vehicle? This MPV was seized for no insurance as the delivery driver had no cover. @MPSGreenwich @DriveInsured pic.twitter.com/TYMyjnQVbv
