COMMERCIAL vehicle hypermarket Anchor Vans is expanding its flagship dealership on the A4 near Padworth, Berkshire.
The business acquired a two-acre plot adjacent to the existing site, just outside Reading, on August 15 and work is expected to begin later this year in order to expand the current showroom, which is running at full capacity.
Once completed, the site will span a total of five acres, with the new space providing a permanent location for the valeting department, an area for transporters to unload away from the busy main road and more room to keep stock.
In addition to streamlining the site’s day-to-day working operations, it will reduce congestion on the nearby stretch of the A4, as there will be less need for the company’s vehicles to travel to and from its other sites.
Anchor Vans has been in the commercial vehicle retail business for nearly 40 years. It employs 60 people across its three sites and and sells an average of 50 units per week.
The news of the Padworth expansion follows the company’s site further down the A4 in Midgham receiving planning approval to build a new glass-fronted showroom and an additional MOT bay.
Simon Joyce, managing director of Anchor Vans, commented: ‘We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our main site and we are excited about the improvements it will bring to our business, our employee’s working lives and the local community.
‘Our family-run business has been operating in the local area for over 30 years, and we look forward to continuing our growth, which will open up further job opportunities within our area.’
