THE top players in the used car industry saw their hard work justly recognised tonight at this year’s Car Dealer Magazine Used Car Awards.
The event, sponsored by Black Horse and hosted once again by TV’s Mr Wheeler Dealer Mike Brewer, drew hundreds of professionals to The Brewery in London for an evening of glitz and glamour that honoured the smaller independents to the larger groups.
It’s the eighth year that our Used Car Awards have been held, highlighting dealers from across the used car sector in a variety of categories, including a new one this year that recognised the best dealerships when it comes to days to sell.
Our thorough judging process – which included a mystery shopping round – separated the wheat from the chaff, scoring on performance to reward the best, brightest, smartest and downright nicest in the used car trade.
Once the serious side of the proceedings was over, attendees were able to enjoy a fun casino that had a fantastic price of £400 in John Lewis vouchers and could strut their funky stuff on the dance floor as well.
A fundraising raffle in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital was also held, with amazing prizes comprising two places at next year’s RAC Golf Day in Scotland including overnight accommodation, a pair of tickets to a Champions League game, a Daniel Ricciardo signed cap, two passes for the 2020 Silverstone Classic, and two tickets to the Car Dealer Used Car Awards 2020. A total of £2,814.22 was raised – enough to pay for 11 weeks of patient and family accommodation close to the hospital, ensuring that parents and siblings are never far away while a child is undergoing life-changing treatment.
Congratulating everyone who had made it through to the big night, James Baggott, chief executive of the Baize Group, which owns Car Dealer Magazine publisher Blackball Media, told the attendees: ‘We’re incredibly proud to be able to host these special awards that are unique in giving everyone the chance to shine in the spotlight.
‘There’s no doubt 2019 has been one of the toughest years the automotive industry has encountered for a while. Used car sales have dipped ever so slightly – by less than one per cent – but still an incredible 6.1 million have changed hands.
‘In these tough times, Car Dealer Magazine and the Used Car Awards judges applaud your efforts out there on the ground.’
