CHEVROLET UK boss Mark Terry is weighing up the business model for bringing the Camaro to the UK.
Currently the muscle car – famous for its roles as Bumblebee in the Transformers films – is only available in left-hand drive.
A right-hand drive model was planned, but canned when GM fell into difficulties last year. However, Terry says that’s now back on the table.
‘I’d love to bring the Camaro to the UK, but it’s about doing it in a way that is sustainable for the business,’ he exclusively told Car Dealer.
‘We’re not going to do it as a loss leader, or a halo model – it has to make financial sense.’
He added that even with the left-hand drive option currently available he and his team are still crunching the numbers to see if it would ‘work in the UK’.
But added: ‘If the right-hand drive car got the green light then that decision would be a lot easier. You can add a couple of zeros to the volumes if it’s right hand drive.
‘Dealers get people asking for it all the time, as do we when we’re at shows. The demand is certainly there, but it’s about doing it in a way that works for our business.’
Terry wouldn’t give a timeframe, but the fact he was open about the fact he was considering it is a very positive sign in itself.
