THE SMMT has joined forces with both professional and student photographers to collate a unique photo gallery.
The collection of photographs provides a rare ‘behind the scenes’ look at the UK motor industry – some so rare that they have never been seen by the public.
The aim of the gallery is ‘to challenge existing perceptions of the industry’ by presenting an array of images that span the whole industry.
SMMT’s chief executive, Paul Everitt, said: ‘From design and development, to manufacture and retail across components, cars, buses and commercial vehicles, the UK has one of the world’s most diverse automotive sectors.
‘These unique images give an up-to-date view of the work and people involved in one of the UK’s most important industries. The UK motor industry is at the cutting edge of new technology, high value manufacturing and the fast developing low carbon economy. It offers exciting career opportunities and will play a major role in helping to rebalance the UK economy and deliver private sector jobs and prosperity across the country.’
The images range from the iconic wind turbines at Ford’s Dagenham Diesel Centre, the Mini Plant in Oxford, and Vauxhall’s plant at Ellesmere Port, to Nissan’s ultra-modern Rotunda design studio in Paddington.
SMMT’s online gallery of images is on the Flickr and can be viewed by clicking here.
