MARSHALL Motor Group could be one step closer to entering space if they get enough votes in a unique, worldwide competition.
Marshall’s Richard Fuller, who heads the dealer group’s digital team, has entered a competition to have a once-in-a-lifetime trip into space.
Fuller is up against 14 people from countries including the USA and Canada, and was shortlisted with the help of a tweet.
‘The competition was organised by the software firm Redgate who are based in Cambridge,’ Fuller told us. ‘Somebody just told me about it and I decided to enter it, without any thought of winning it.’
More than 5,500 people entered the competition, with each one having to answer 14 online video questions, and were then selected on what they would tweet from space if they won.
After successfully answering the questions, Fuller was selected for his tweet: ‘Bloody boring up here: space toilet’s broken and now the computer’s playing up. It keeps saying, ”I’m sorry, Dave, I can’t do that!” ‘
‘I was totally blown away when I had found out I had been shortlisted,’ said Fuller. ‘The other 14 shortlisted people tweeted very clever tech-speak. Mine wasn’t!’
Judging now takes place until December 13 in a 50/50 combination of American Idol-style public voting. The judging panel comprises Simon Galbraith, joint-CEO of Red Gate Software, Buck Woody, senior technical specialist for Microsoft, and Blur guitarist Graham Coxon.
You can vote for Richard by clicking here. One thing is unclear though – whether Fuller’s colleagues will be voting: ‘They said they’ll only be voting if it’s a one-way ticket!’
