THE boss of Mark Campbell Motors, which went bust earlier this year, is reassuring his customers that they will not be out of pocket.
According to This is Derbyshire, founder and director of the firm, Mark Campbell moved to the site in 1995, previously selling Proton and Daihatsu cars, but problems with the business struck during the recession in 2008.
The Derbyshire-based dealership in Draycott Road, Breaston, which stocked Korean SsangYong and Chinese Great Wall vehicles, ceased trading after almost 20 years, resulting in 10 members of staff being made redundant.
Campbell told This is Derbyshire: ‘Daihatsu decided to stop importing cars into the UK because of the weak yen. This left us looking for another franchise, which turned out to be Great Wall and later SsangYong.’
He added: ‘We had a tough start to this year and it came to the point where we just couldn’t sustain the losses anymore.’
As a number of customers paid for service plans, Campbell has prioritised making sure his customers don’t end up losing money and other garages are keen to take on the service plans.
